WHY

The Edu-Care project encompasses all educational and care facilities directly supported and managed by CARE TO ACTION. The children benefiting from this program, many of whom belong to marginalized communities, live in extreme poverty within urban slums. Those families facing precarious situations are included in the distance support program, while children at significant risk—facing threats to their health and safety—are placed in secure shelters.

WHY

WHAT

We provide well-equipped and functional school facilities, along with nutritious meals and support courses to ensure quality education. Awareness seminars are conducted for parents to prevent school dropouts, early child marriages, and combat child labour. Regular health camps are organized to monitor children’s well-being. Additionally, summer camps and other extracurricular activities offer children safe and supportive environments outside of school hours.

WHAT

HOW

The children of the Edu-Care project live in slums under vulnerable and unhygienic conditions, often in shacks made of sheet metal and other salvaged materials. With very high illiteracy rates and a life expectancy ten years below the average, the people in these slums live from hand to mouth, mostly collecting waste materials. The children are often survivors of various forms of exploitation and violence; some are without parents or have been abandoned due to various reasons. To accommodate these children, Mangos Home has been established and necessary support from time to time has been extended to Prem Niketan for physically and intellectually challenged children, where minors can grow up in a serene and protected environment.
